Conversion flows explained (1 click, 2 clicks, Premium SMS, Pre-filled PIN Submit, WiFi PIN Submit)

While all mVAS offers are charged via carrier billing, there are different flows you can use to promote them. They change based on the country, carrier, and regulations available.

Here are the most common conversion flows you can find on mVAS offers lately, all of which are available on Golden Goose:

  • 1 click
  • 2 click
  • Premium SMS
  • PIN submit (prefilled)
  • PIN Submit

Let me quickly go over how each one of them works as it’s important to understand what the user needs to do to get paid for each conversion.

1 click

1 click mVAS offers are the easiest way to get started because it’s usually where people convert more. This conversion flow requires very little fraction between the user and their phone to complete an action.

The offer page shows a call to action (button) and the user clicks it and everything is done in the backend. After that, the user gets a confirmation, and the subscription starts and you get paid.

I recommend starting with 1 click or 2 click offers because the payouts are decent and the conversion rate is high. It’s way easier for you to get your first conversions and learn how to optimize campaigns with 1 click offers.

The only downside is that many countries don’t have 1 click offers available due to regulations and restrictions. Most 1 click geos are Tier 3 geos with lower payouts, but again, this is great because those geos have lower competition and cheap traffic.

2 click

The 2 click conversion flow is very similar to 1 click, but here, the user has to agree before clicking the call to action or they have to confirm their subscription after clicking the call to action. Here’s how it looks:

Again, many of the geos where 2 click offers are available are Tier 3 countries, which is great to get started without high competition and high prices. 2 click offers have a relatively easy conversion flow as well.

Premium SMS

Premium SMS is a bit more tricky but still works well in some geos. After a user clicks the call to action, they’re taken to their default messages app with a prefilled SMS, including the content and number.

The user needs to hit “send” so they can get subscribed. After a few seconds or minutes, they receive a confirmation message and the service is activated (and you get paid).

As you can see, there’s more friction here, as the user needs to send an SMS and they already know it’s going to cost them a message (they need to have credit in their mobile phone for it to work).

However, in some geos, this conversion flow still works well because the message and the number are already pre-filled.

PIN Submit (prefilled)

This is where it gets a bit more complex. PIN submits come in two forms: prefilled, and empty.

A user needs to click a button (call to action) on a page where their phone number has already been detected, hence, they call it prefilled. After they click that button, they’ll get an SMS message with a PIN like this:

Now that they have their PIN, they need to go back to the browser and input that PIN and confirm it to create a subscription:

Once that’s done, they’ll receive a message confirming their subscription and you will get paid. As you can see, this conversion flow is more tricky and requires multiple steps to get paid. For the phone number to be prefilled in the first step, the user is normally required to be online via a mobile carrier connection (3G/4G).

PIN Submit (WiFi)

Finally, PIN submits without a prefilled number. This conversion flow is almost the same as the last one, but since the user is connected over WiFi instead of a mobile carrier internet connection, the phone number can’t be detected, and thus, the user needs to input their number to start the whole process:

Once they input their phone number and press the call to action button, they’ll receive an SMS message with a PIN that they need to input back in the browser for the subscription to be created.

As you can see, this conversion flow can be quite complex for general users and while it was very popular many years ago, it doesn’t convert much as of 2021. Some countries rely on prefilled/non-prefilled PIN submit offers though due to carrier technologies and restrictions.

Again, if you’re getting started, I recommend you to look for 1 click or 2 click offers to make your quest as easy as possible and start getting conversions fast.
